To correctly identify (ID) a car you need the chassis number that is stamped into the
metal in the engine bay. This must match the chassis number on the tag (metal plate) riveted to
the firewall usually on the drivers side.
The Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) tag is usually located on the centre top of the firewall.
E.g., (LC & LJ) 82369 J H5 00025 and (LH & LX) 8VD69 LD J511223 H. The coded details shown
will give the type of Torana, engine, assembly plant etc.
The tag on the passenger side gives the original paint code, trim type, engine type, gearbox and diff
configuration.
